Dartford Women 8 – 1 Wycombe Wanderers Women
Hard-hitting loss away from home sees Wycombe out of the FA Cup qualifying rounds.
A relentless away bout against Dartford Women sees the Chairgirls out of the FA Cup qualifying rounds following an 8 – 1 defeat.
Wycombe’s second fixture of the qualifying stages of the FA Cup kicked off with heavy pressure from Dartford. Their deep and early pressing into the final third offered multiple chances for the home side to get the early lead. In the opening five minutes, a long ball from a goal kick allowed Dartford to cross the ball into their box and through Wycombe’s defence, slotting it in the bottom right corner.
A tough opener for the Chairgirls did not hinder their efforts, as they kept the hosts at bay for the remainder of the first half, with Wycombe goalkeeper, Chelsea Coles, providing vital saves to maintain the 1-0 deficit into half-time.
The final 45 proved demanding for the Chairgirls, after conceding three in five minutes to go 4 – 0 down. Despite the taxing start, Wycombe stayed persistent with their attacking attempts, with numerous chances created. Following the home side losing possession from their throw-on, Emily McCartney carried the ball down the right side of the pitch, passing to Katie Riddington who found Ammara Qureshi. Qureshi’s left-footed strike met the keeper but acted as Wycombe’s first threat at goal.
The Chairgirls’ further chances came from Captain, Bobby Lynch, whose free-kick was sent inches over the crossbar, as well as Ashleigh Harte, whose shot was punched away by the Dartford keeper.
Following a strenuous 85 minutes, the Chairgirls found themselves 7 – 0 down. However, Ammara Qureshi, who produced a strong chance for the visitors earlier in the match, earned her first senior team goal, assisted by Katie Riddington, with a stunning strike finding the bottom right corner.
The final whistle capped the match with the hosts securing an 8 – 1 win, ending Wycombe’s FA Cup qualifying run.
The Chairgirls will be back in action on Sunday 29th October as they take on Woodley United away from home back in the Southern Region Women’s Football League. 2pm Kick Off.
